HSBC Executive Arrested For Inside Trading

HSBC the bank known for being charged with enabling Latin American drug cartels to launder money, found one of its executives charged for insider trading Tuesday night. Mark Johnson, global head of foreign exchange trading as HSBC, was detained at JFK airport attempting to board a transatlantic flight to London. The complaint accuses Johnson of "defrauding client", and “corruptly manipulated the foreign exchange market to benefit themselves and their bank”.

In particular, Johsnon and his colleague Stuart Scott, who was also charged, made a $3mn profit by fraudulent trading in front of clients market buy orders, and then charging fees for their "work". They would essentially instantly profit from a price spike on their trades from client orders pushing the price up. Meanwhile Bitcoin regularly sees insider trading and the economic health that follows.

Poor Wi-Fi Hygeine Snags Data At RNC

Avast security announced today that rogue wireless access points set up in and around areas at the Republican national convention in Ohio netted around 1200 unsuspecting users in what the company claims was an experiment to demonstrate how risky it can be to connect to public Wi-Fi. Researchers set up several fake access points, naming them after common hotspots, and some with clever names like  “I vote Trump! free Internet”. Approximately 1.6 Gb's of data was exposed, with the report stating that 68.3% of users had their identities or other sensitive information exposed upon connection. Nearly 25% of the users browsed porn sites, while only a little over 5% used the connections to play Pokemon Go. The experiment at the very least highlighted the lack of security consciousness amongst the average person that occurs on a daily basis.

US Department of "Defense" Switches To iPhone

Reports are emerging that the United States Department of "Defense"1 is moving from Google's smartphone platform to Apple's smartphone platform. Apple already enjoys a rather chummy relationship with various organs of the United States government but now Apple has won endorsement from the Special Operations Command for the supposed tactical utility offered by the iPhone 6s ™(r). The price Apple paid for the marketing value of having the iPhone, assembled in Shenzen by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., endorsed as a "National Security Product" used by 31337 special forces operators playing Modern Warfare IRL has not been disclosed. Peace in our time.

  1. An odd designation considering nearly all of its roles and abilities are balanced towards offensive rather than defensive capability.

Arizona Deputies Refused Service By Taco Bell Employee

Two deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's department were refused service by a Taco Bell cashier on Saturday night (archived). The cashier reportedly told the two that the restaurant does not serve law "enforcement" officers. In spite of reports that other customers approved of the cashier's exercising her ability to refuse service, the cashier was fired Sunday while management from the Franchisee and Yum brands were occupied with apologizing to the local "law enforcement" community.

The cashier has neither been identified nor given an opportunity by the local media to offer details about the incident. The possibility of bad behavior on the part of the deputies acutely justifying the refusal of service for reasons beyond the cashier taking a principled stand may exist. Peace in our time.

Three Baton Rouge Officers Killed In Ambush

Three Baton Rouge, Louisiana police officers were killed after responding to a call of shots fired (archived). Once the police arrived at the scene the suspects who appeared to already be engaged in a gun battle with each other redirected their aggro and targeted the police officers. Whether this was an honest gun battle between actual adversaries that turned into an ambush when police arrived or a planned ambush shaped by the idea that simulating a gun battle in the streets would1 attract a sizeable police response. One of the ambushers was shot dead and two were arrested. Other participants may at present be suffering neither confinement nor the actualization of their mortality. Peace in our time.

  1. At least at present

Shots Fired At D.C. Police Oficers

Zero Hedge reports that five men are under arrest in D.C after firing shots at police officers (archived). According to an unidentified spokesperson for the department the shots were not an attack on police officers, instead the shooting was merely a strategy for trying to avoid arrest. They were not successful. Omitted from any public statement is a mechanism by which shooting at police officers could be successful at avoiding or at least delaying arrest. Peace in our time!

Further Violence In United States Over The Weekend

Incidents of violence involving police continued over the weekend in the United States. In St Paul Minnesota 21 police officers were injured and 102 arrests were made after violence broke out at a protest on Interstate 94 in the city (archived). The most severe injury disclosed was a broke vertebra imparted by a cinder block dropped on the officer's head.

Meanwhile Tyler Gebhard (WOT:nonperson) invaded the home of a police officer in Lakeshire, an upscale suburb in south west St Louis County, Missouri. The home invasion was reportedly prompted by a heated Facebook argument between the two. After breaching the officer's home with a 50 pound concrete planter, Gebhard was relieved of his anger and mortality through the officer's application of hot lead.

Peace in our time.

WAPO: Major US Socialist Party To Deploy Electoral Nuclear Option In Desperation

According to the Washington Post the Major Socialist Party in the United States1 is set to deploy a nuclear option in the campaign out of desperation. This nuclear option is a pathway for marijuana legalization in the United States.2 This comes as the Libertarian party ticket of two term governors Gary Johnson and William Weld is positioned to play spoiler not to Donald Trump-Clinton (WOT:nonperson), but to Hillary Rodham-Clinton. Traditionally the Libertarian party has been positioned to spoil minor socialist tickets while the Green Party3 spoiled major socialist tickets.

In this year's electoral circus where the Libertarian slate is polling with greater support than the typical gap between major party candidates, the Major socialist party has been forced to fire the marijuana legalization glass cannon.4 Of course there could be other motivations for the move, like the reality that United States farmers desperately need a crop that isn't edible. Sorry for your laws.

  1. Meaning the one that is poised to nominate Hillary "Clitler" Rodham-Clinton (WOT:nonperson)for the presidency.

  2. Also known as what people thought they were  for voting for when voting for Barack Obama (WOT:nonperson).

  3. Became defunct in 2000 when it helped spoil Al Gore's (WOT:nonperson) chance at beating George W. Bush (WOT:nonperson).

  4. This a a glass cannon because you can only legalize marijuana once. Otherwise marijuana is already legal. Just as delivering gay marriage means they can't deliver it again. This is in contrast to their tent poles like fighting poverty which are incapable of having a defined "mission accomplished" style ending.

Meh Of The Week: Coinbase Can't Serve Canada

Coinbase has announced that it will no longer be servicing Canadian customers after August 1, 2016. Canadian fiat interface Vogogo abruptly decided to shut down it's service, leaving Coinbase no way to hawk it's imitation Bitcoin to users located there. Current users have been given a deadline of July 29th to convert their Canadian dollars to Bitcoin, or withdraw to a bank account. Users who fail to do so will be subject to account suspension, leaving remaining users in the scheme forced to pay exorbitant fees to recover their finds. Coinbase notably supported the failed XTCoin and ClassicCoin coup attempts which both failed like their Canadian fiat interface Vogogo. Sorry for your loss.

Multiple Ambush Attacks On Police Officers Today

Following the sniper versus drone incident last night there were at least two incidents of police officer being shot in ambush style attacks. In Georgia a man reportedly called 911 and when a police officer arrived at the scene shot the officer who ended up wounding him too, both are reportedly expected to survive. In Ballwin, Missouri a police officer seems to have been lured into pulling over a car where a man shot him in the neck before fleeing. A suspect in the Ballwin ambush was taken in after being subdued by electroshock weapons. The Ballwin incident is notable as during the past several weeks predominately black churches around the Saint Louis area have been subjected to fires and graffiti sympathizing with the Black Hebrew nationalist cause, a factor likely to further aggravate tensions in the region which is also home to Ferguson. Peace in our time.
