New York Times noise generator Paul Krugman deleted a tweet where he claimed that some "hackers" were using his IP address to download child pornography (archived). He claimed:
Well, I’m on the phone with my computer security service, and as I understand it someone compromised my IP address and is using it to download child pornography. I might just be a random target. But this could be an attempt to Qanon me.The Times is now on the case.
Deleted original tweet. Times thinks it may have been a scam. Anyway, will have more security in future
This outburst raises a number of questions like:
Is Paul Krugman trying to play the canned "hacker" alibi he had ready for the event he got caught downloading child pornography?
Or did Paul Krugman get hacked by the world's least curious and creative hackers? Is Paul Krugman's computing truly so boring that the only thing hackers could do is download child pornography?
When are the Paul Krugman nudes coming out?
Which way is the space between Krugman's hired security service that told him child porn was definitely coming down his wire and the NYTimes damage control department that claimed "it's probably just a scam" going to be resolved?
It is unlikely the answers to these questions will emerge from the New York Times.
