Ross Ulbricht Sentenced To Life In Prison

Convicted of seven offences last February, Ross William Ulbricht was today (archive) sentenced to life in prison with no parole for the part he played in the operation of the Silk Road. In addition to his life sentence, Ulbricht has been ordered to pay the United States Government USD $183,961,921 despite the fact it has already sold a majority of the coins it confiscated from Ulbricht via the USMS auctions.

Speaking to the life sentence she handed down, U.S. District Judge Katherine B. Forrest said:

"There must be no doubt that lawlessness will not be tolerated. There must be no doubt that no one is above the law – no matter one's education or privileges. All stand equal before the law. There must be no doubt that you cannot run a massive criminal enterprise and because it occurred over the Internet minimize the crime committed on that basis."

Sharing his comments, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara commented:

“Make no mistake: Ulbricht was a drug dealer and criminal profiteer who exploited people's addictions and contributed to the deaths of at least six young people. Ulbricht went from hiding his cybercrime identity to becoming the face of cybercrime and as today's sentence proves, no one is above the law.”

  1. How many USG employees have the intelligence to build a simple website, let alone the silk road? These idiots seem to be hell bent on breeding a very angry, very desperate generation. If they continue imprisoning their betters the result is going to be technically savvy warlords. Prison gangs are currently comprised of idiots. I'm interested in seeing what the motivated individuals such as Weev and Ulbricht produce.

    • The answer to the first part is directly obvious, and amply supplied by the fossil record. Obamacare website took two years and a billion or so to almost kinda work. IRS website is still wide open to the most banal attacks. Remember ORCA, the superadvanced derp collider ?

    • How many USG employees have the intelligence to build a simple website, let alone the silk road??

More than you think.. you´re in for a big surprise I´m afraid

Prison gangs comprised of idiots? yeah right the ones you see in the movies you nerd… ah maybe you think that because they´re in prison they must be idiots right? GTFOH

Sure enough Ulbricht must be already forming his own prison gang… of brilliant and handsome middle class "technically savvy" programmers… (sic) angry teen comments like yours is what makes the whole liberal cypherpunk movement look like a bad joke

Please think twice before posting such ridiculous comments and when in doubt… simply abstain from commenting.

  2. "it fraudulently claimed at some point to have already sold a majority". FIFY.
