The BBC reports (archive) a Welsh man who plead guilty to charges of possession and supply of Class A and B drugs back in June of this year has been sentenced to a term of two years prison.
Cei William Owens, better known as JohnnyAlpha to his customers was arrested in November of 2014 as part of a joint operation between the FBI, ICE, Europol and Eurojust which resulted in the shut down of the Silk Road 2.0 and arrest of its operator Blake Benthall.
But despite Owens having earned a 4/5 star rating for his cannabis and magic mushrooms with guaranteed next day delivery throughout the UK, Prosecutor Clare Wilks claimed (archive) it is difficult to determine just how much money Owens made because he was using Bitcoin. In contradiction to her comment, Peter Smith of the UK's National Crime Agency is quoted as saying:
The realisation that you can be tracked and identified on the dark web is beginning to sink in for online criminals. Selling drugs this way is just like any other organised crime network – it takes time and effort to investigate and build a criminal case, but we are determined and will continue to prosecute people who deal drugs and commit serious crime using the dark web.
