Yet Another Silk Road Marketplace Launches

An as yet unknown1 individual or group has taken up the mantle of DPR and launched the next iteration of the Silk Road marketplace, but this time around it's not accessible via Tor. SilkRoadReloaded, which promotes security as being its number one feature, launched a few days ago on the I2P network and is currently being promoted throughout various dark marketplace and other subreddits by someone assumed to be connected to the new service.

The five day old announcement for SilkRoadReloaded reads:

After a much longer than anticipated delay we are pleased to announce the arrival of the next modern incarnation of SilkRoad, ala SilkRoadREloaded.

There are many unique features as you will notice immediately upon registration. Take your time and if you have any questions ask here or ask via the contact form on the site.

Thank you for your patience and there will be minor changes to some things. If there are any site outages they will be announced here, the when, the how long and the changes taking place.

We use GPG fairly heavily for communications so please get familiar with that tool.

We accept other coins besides Bitcoin, however we have a unique service in that we instantly convert your altcoin(s) to Bitcoin which can be used on the site or withdrawn at your discretion. Currently the accepted altcoins are:

Blackcoin(BC) Dogecoin(DOGE) Darkcoin(DRK) Feathercoin(FTC) Litecoin(LTC)

We are in the process of adding more, if you would like to see us accept a specific coin(s) make your request here, in the contact form on the site or on the forum also accessible from the site.

It's not known if the inherent hazards of the Tor network were a minor or major consideration in the decision to launch the new site via the I2P network instead of Tor but SilkRoadReloaded is not the first to have used the Tor alternative to connect buyer and seller. The Marketplace was an I2P site which left beta in October of 2013 yet went offline around the same time Blake Benthall's Silk Road 2.0 was shut down. Administrator for The Marketplace, TMPSchultz, is MIA and has not been heard from since.

  1. At least to the public.

  1. does anyone suspect that Bitcoin whales might be funding these operations to enhance demand for Bitcoin?
